Alternative Dispute Resolution Courses

ASU’s ADR course offerings are both substantial and innovative.  In most semesters, ASU offers 4 ADR courses and, to foster student enrollment, none of them have pre-requisites.  A total of seven ADR courses are offered on a regular basis.
ADR also features prominently in the College of Law’s legal practice curriculum.  For instance in Lawyering Theory and Practice, students spend one week discussing Negotiation and another week on ADR and settlement conferences.  In both the Civil Justice Clinic and the Indian Legal Clinic (ILC), students spend up to 8 class hours in ADR study with substantial simulation work outside of class.  In the ILC, the students spend another class period comparing and contrasting court related ADR to traditional Native American Dispute Resolution.  In Employment Law , the students spend up to 5 class hours discussing arbitration in a collective bargaining context.
