Affiliates and Social Media

Affiliated Programs

The IAP is affiliated with the Lisa Foundation Patent Law Clinic and the Healthcare Entrepreneurship Clinic, as all three programs are based at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. This affiliation includes referring clients between the programs, joint marketing efforts to prospective students and clients, and other activities that benefit clients of the programs and the programs themselves.

Lisa Foundation Patent Law Clinic

Students in the Lisa Foundation Patent Law Clinic have the unique opportunity to practice patent law under the guidance and instruction of seasoned patent attorneys. Students receive temporary registration numbers to represent clients directly before the USPTO and actively draft and electronically file patent and trademark applications and interact with USPTO examiners throughout the prosecution process. Additionally, students perform patentability searches, render opinions, and counsel clients on the patentability of inventions.  The clinic also offers experiences in patent licensing and enforcement, including claim construction, infringement, and validity analyses as well as assessment of licensing strategies. The Lisa Foundation Patent Law Clinic is taught by Faculty Associate Michelle Gross.

Healthcare Entrepreneurship Clinic

Students enrolled in the Healthcare Entrepreneurship Clinic work with early-stage Arizona-based healthcare businesses to solve problems related to business formation, including Intellectual Property issues, Regulatory and compliance matters, as well as development and review of contracts, leases and licenses. Clinic students also attend the Innovation Advancement Program seminar class and meet with their faculty supervisor weekly.  The supervision of the Healthcare Entrepreneurship Clinic is provided by John Shufeldt, M.D., J.D.

Other Affiliates

Although not as strongly affiliated with the IAP, ASU offers many other services to inventors, entrepreneurs, and emerging companies via the Venture Catalyst program at SkySong.
