Abbott was asked to give a presentation similar to one he gave in Washington, D.C., in September 2013 at a workshop sponsored by the Council on Foreign Relations which he outlined the range of global governance approaches that regulators might consider and made a few general recommendations.
A leading scholar in international law, Abbott's teaching and research focus on the interdisciplinary study of international law and international relations, including public and private institutions, environmental issues, development policy, global health, and international trade and economic law. He is a Center for Law and Global Affairs Co-Director. He also has a faculty appointment appointment in the ASU School of Global Studies, where he co-directs the global environmental governance program.
